 The Ebola treatment center in Makeni is an aseptic place where the smell of chlorine bleach and permeates every corner. In this center, local and international professionals working together, side by side, to fight the worst Ebola epidemic in history, affecting particularly tragic in this region of Sierra Leone way.
This center is a large camp in which, from your shopping, have experienced unspeakable horrors. For example, one of my classmates-a doctor who has been in this facility since January- told me that was used to witness cruel and grotesque deaths daily. However, there was a day that cost him especially sleep. That day in the tent where infected rested positive for Ebola, he found one of the patients 16 years of everyone thought was already recovering. It was there, in the middle of the room, bleeding from the eyes and mouth and screaming with rage, pain and at the same time, acceptance. The drama of this terrible outbreak is not only the high number of infected patients, but also what is tragic and cruel death and, therefore, how traumatic it is for families to witness something.

I never thought I would witness such joy in a hospital for patients with Ebola. After three weeks of fighting between life and death, Mamasu, a nurse 30 years, managed to defeat the deadly virus and was discharged in the middle of a big celebration and hullabaloo. Mamasu, like other medical staff was aware that work in the hospital has a very high risk. Since the epidemic began, more than 500 health have lost their life infected with Ebola.

Mamasu is officially a survivor Ebola and this is regarded as a hero. All center workers were called to celebrate and waited at the door of the Red Zone (red zone), where you can only enter with full costume for personal protection. Mamasu ist offiziell ein Überlebender Ebola und dies wird als Held angesehen.
