Basel (Switzerland). (Europa Press) .- The Swiss drugmaker Novartis reported net income of U.S. $ 5.385 million (4.232 million euros) in the first six months of the year, representing an increase of 33.9% over the same period in 2009, the company, which quadrupled the sales of its vaccines unit by sales of vaccines against influenza A (H1N1). In particular, the vaccines division revenues of $ 1,900 million (1,493 million euros) to June, compared with $ 494 million (388 million euros) in the first half of last year, thanks to the contribution of 1,300 million (1,021 million) of contracts related to the provision of vaccines against influenza A (H1N1). Thus, the turnover of the Swiss laboratory reached U.S. $ 23.847 million (18.742 million euros), 17.7%, with a 10% increase in sales by the Pharmaceuticals Division and 14% in generic unit.
In the second quarter of the year, Novartis made a profit of U.S. $ 2.437 million (1,915 million euros), representing a 19.2% increase, while turnover rose 11% to 11.716 million dollars ( 9.208 million euros).
On the other hand, the multinational pharmaceutical company has revised upward its sales expectations for the full year and expected to increase between 5% and 9%.
