El decreto por el que se establece este estado de emergencia fue firmado el viernes por la noche por Obama. "He ejercitado mi autoridad para declarar una emergencia nacional con el fin de estar preparados en caso de un rápido incremento de la enfermedad en el país que pueda sobrecargar nuestros recursos sanitarios", indica Obama en su notificación al Congreso. Las situaciones de emergencia nacional ha sido declaradas en otras ocasiones por desastres naturales como huracanes.
"Es importante recalcar que es una medida de precaución y no una medida en respuesta a una novedad", asegura un funcionario de administración citado por la agencia Reuters, que insiste en que se ha establecido en el estado de emergencia ante la sobrecarga que pueden sufrir los centros sanitarios.
El virus del H1N1 ha matado a más de1.000 personas en EE UU; 20.000 afectados han tenido que ser ingresados en hospitales según datos del CDC.

The U.S. president, Barack Obama, has signed a decree establishing a national emergency because of the flu, which will take action and approve state aid to cope with any increase in infections.

The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC, its acronym in English) said on Friday that the H1N1 flu has spread in 46 of the 50 U.S. states at a level comparable with the common cold but with a higher incidence early and infenciones more than expected.
The decree establishing the state of emergency was signed Friday night by Obama. "I have exercised my authority to declare a national emergency in order to be prepared in case of a rapid increase of the disease in the country that can overload our health care resources," says Obama in its notification to Congress. The national emergency has been declared in the past by natural disasters like hurricanes.
"It is important that it is a precautionary measure and not a measure in response to a novelty," said one administration official quoted by Reuters, which insists that it has been established in the state of emergency before the overload that may suffer health centers.
The H1N1 virus has killed over 1,000 people in the U.S., 20,000 affected had to be admitted to hospitals according to the CDC.
