Osakidetza begin next Monday a new influenza vaccination campaign, which runs until 31 October and is aimed at people 65 and older, pregnant women, health workers and citizens with various pathologies, groups who were initially allocated 420,000 doses, reports Europa Press.

The new vaccine, whose purchase has been allocated EUR 2,184,250 including the H1N1 virus (known as Influenza A), as well as the other two viruses of the normal seasonal flu. According to the Minister of Health, Rafael Bengoa, influenza is a disease caused by a virus and "highly contagious" but that if affects people "young and healthy, no longer a benign process."
Bengoa is clear that "the most effective preventive measure is vaccination," as it produces a reduction of the probability of contracting the disease (from 70 to 90% in healthy individuals) and the likelihood of hospitalization (50 to 60%) and mortality (80%)
The Minister recalled that, to get vaccinated, people belonging to risk groups should see their regular doctor, which will facilitate the steering wheel to get the vaccine. For people with diabetes or chronic respiratory disease, need not request medical advice, if your medical history and has this risk factor.
